Receiving the Gift of Righteousness
Receiving the Gift of Righteousness
Righteousness, which means right-standing with God, is not always easy to receive, primarily because most believers rarely “feel” righteous. Their wrong behavior, words and attitudes are often roadblocks to receiving righteousness. And while wrong behavior, words and attitudes will have consequences in this world, those things do not affect a person’s standing before God. He always sees you through the filter of the Blood of Jesus – cleansed and whole. Once you place your focus on righteousness (who God says you are) and take your focus off your short-comings, the gift of righteousness goes to work in your life. Listed below are some of the ways that righteousness works when believers simply receive by faith the “gift” Jesus died to give them.
Righteousness is a gift to you from God (II Corinthians 5:21. Romans 3:21-24.)
Righteousness means being in right-standing with God. Jesus became like man so man could become like Him. Receiving righteousness allows you to enjoy fellowship with God based not on your worthiness, but rather on the worthiness of Jesus.
Righteousness separates you from religious traditions and the traditions of men (Romans 14:17).
Religion focuses on “dos and don’ts”. The Word says that “the kingdom of God is not for or drink, but righteousness…” Receiving righteousness allows you to enjoy being fully accepted by God, not because of what you do, but because of what Jesus did.
Righteousness protects you against the enemy’s most potent weapon (Romans 8:1, Ephesians 6:14).
Satan robs God’s children of much of their inheritance through condemnation. If he can get you to major on “who you are not”, instead of “whose you are”, you will never be able to develop your faith to receive what is rightfully yours. Receiving righteousness allows you to enjoy today with no thoughts of guilt about yesterday.
Righteousness protects you against oppression (Psalm 103:6).
The enemy will use whatever he thinks will get you off-track; sickness, financial reversal and strife to abort the future God has for you. Receiving righteousness allows you to enjoy your life even when it is under attack because you realize that the battle is the Lord’s.
Righteousness nurtures the development of your faith (Romans 1:17, Hebrews 10:38).
While faith comes from hearing the Word of God, it can only grow when the “hearer” of the Word accepts his position of right-standing with the Father. Receiving righteousness allows you to enjoy finding the promises in His Word, because you know they are meant for you!
Righteousness gives you boldness to speak out your faith to others (Romans 10:6-8).
You are God’s voice on this earth. Someone will listen to you when he will not listen to anyone else. Receiving righteousness allows you to enjoy taking part in a “birthing process” that changes a life for all eternity.
Righteousness connects you to THE BLESSING of God (Matthew 6:33).
The Word says you are to “seek first…His righteousness”. If you do not purposely pursue your right-standing with God, you will not walk in it because, in the natural you just do not “feel” like you deserve it (you don’t – that is why it is a gift!). Receiving righteousness allows you to enjoy living the abundant life (spirit, soul and body) that Jesus died to give you.
