Spiritual “Triggers”

Spiritual “Triggers”

Philippians 4:8-9 (The Message Bible)
8-9 Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.

The definition of an emotional trigger, is “anything (e.g. memories, objects, people) that spark intense negative emotions.” We all have them; those things that can set us off abruptly, spiraling us into a dark pit. Emotional triggers come from the soulish realm. We are a spirit; we have a soul (our mind, will and emotions) and we live in a body. Therefore, emotional triggers begin in the mind – first with a thought that then affects our feelings. Whether directly or indirectly, their source is from the kingdom of darkness. The potential for emotional triggers will always exist. The question is, how do we learn not to yield to them?

Keep in mind that the devil never created anything – he counterfeits what already exists. That means that there must be Spiritual “Triggers” in the Kingdom of God; things from the Word which can lift us into a place of peace and rest, which leaves us emotionally charged. Determine to find the Spiritual Triggers that “set you off!” To get started, here are three to consider:

The NAME of JESUS: Philippians 2:10 (NLT) 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth: If it has a name – cancer, poverty, fear, mental anguish – that name must bow to Jesus.

THE BLOOD: Hebrews 12:24 (MSG) You’ve come to Jesus, who presents us with a new covenant, a fresh charter from God. He is the Mediator of this covenant. The murder of Jesus, unlike Abel’s—a homicide that cried out for vengeance—became a proclamation of grace. Other translations say, “The BLOOD speaks a better word.” The BLOOD speaks “GRACE” and GRACE is God’s supply for anything we could ever need.

The WORD: Isaiah 40:8 (NASB) 8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever. When everything in our lives seems to be crumbling around us, God’s Word remains – and it has the power to get us beyond whatever we are going through victoriously.

To better understand the importance of having Spiritual Triggers in our lives, we need only think of the power negative emotional triggers have on us when we allow them to be released. At worst they can paralyze us with fear, and at the very least, they can make us depressed. Imagine if the counterfeit can do such harm, what good will result when we release the triggers created in heaven on our behalf! Anchor Tombstone 16px
