Receive Jesus as the Lord of Time and Space!
Receive Jesus as the Lord of Time and Space!
John 2:11 (TPT)
11 This miracle in Cana was the first of the many extraordinary miracles Jesus performed in Galilee. This was a sign revealing his glory, and his disciples believed in him.
It is not unusual for pastors and heads of ministries to take time at the end of each year to get away alone with God and listened to what He has to say about the coming year. Often the Lord will reveal a theme or a major thought that is to be focused on in upcoming year. One well-known minister of the Gospel was told by the Lord that 2020 would be “The Year of Time and Space.” At first, he stepped back from the Word to make sure he had heard correctly. He even admitted that he was a bit underwhelmed by it. He wondered what he could bring to his congregation with that as the theme in the year to come. As the year began to unfold, it became evident why the Lord had given him this theme.
As the pastor began to meditate and spend time with the Lord on this topic, he was led to the book of John. There he discovered that the first two miracles Jesus performed were situations which involved time and space. The first miracle was where Jesus turned water into wine (John 2:1-11). Even those who know little about producing wine, know that the best wines are those who have been on shelves for many, many years. In this miracle, Jesus was able to take a process that in the natural would take 20+ years to perfect and produce it in seconds. And, it was excellent wine. The master of the feast even commented on the quality of the wine to the bridegroom, “But you have kept the best for last”. (NLT)
In this first miracle, Jesus revealed Himself to be, the “Lord of Time.”
The second miracle Jesus performed is found in John 4:46-54. Once again, this miracle occurred in Cana, the site of the first miracle. A government official from a nearby town came to Jesus and asked Him to come to his home and heal his dying son. Jesus did not go with him, but simply told him to return home and that his son would live. The government official returned home to find his son well, and was told by a servant that the son had been healed in the same hour Jesus had told him his son would live. This revealed Jesus as the “Lord of Space.” Jesus didn’t have to go to the home where the boy was to touch him and heal him. It was as if the distance involved was compressed.
As we come to the end of 2020, we can see the significance of the message this pastor received. Think of what has been stolen from so many people in the last 9 months because of the COVID pandemic. For business people, years of hard work have gone down the drain because of lost income. For some the businesses have shut down completely. Lifetime dreams, seemingly lost in a matter of months. For others not only has time been lost, but relationships have suffered because of the limitations imposed through lockdowns. People’s worlds have shrunk significantly and many wonder if things will ever be the same.
How does this apply to us in a practical sense? When we see Jesus as Lord of Time and Space, this past year begins to take a different shape. The hopelessness that spread as the pandemic grew begins to fade and Bible Hope (Romans 5:5) returns to lift our spirits. The same Jesus who turned water into wine in seconds can take our financial setbacks and turn them into successes in record time. (He’s already doing it in our country – look at the GDP figures for the nation in the third quarter of the year.)
As Lord of Space he can take our “compressed lives” – which have been impacted by a sense of isolation – and return them to overflowing in every area. As with anything in the Kingdom of God, it comes down to “believing and receiving”. It is the only path to experiencing all that GRACE offers.
