Just Enough is Never Enough for God
Just Enough is Never Enough for God
Ephesians 3:20 (TPT)
20 Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dreams and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for his miraculous power constantly energizes you.
God has not, is not, nor ever will be in the business of helping His children just get by in life. As any good earthly parent would be, He is interested in seeing His children thrive, not just survive. Through ignorance and/or lack of rightly dividing the Word of God, the idea has been promoted that, while on earth, believers will always come up short somewhere.
The Word does not support that. Below, are a few scriptures that set the record straight:
- Psalm 23:5 (NLT) 5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings.
- John 10:10 (TPT) 10 A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter,[a] and destroy. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, [b] more than you expect[c]—life in its fullness until you overflow!
- Luke 6:38 (NKJV)
38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
Those scriptures show God’s desire. What about scripture that shows God doing what He says He wants to do? Read on…
Luke 5:4-7 (NKJV)
4 When He {Jesus} had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” 6 And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. 7 So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.
What can we learn from this account in Luke 5? First, God always wants more for us than we want for ourselves (Jesus said nets, Peter let down a net). Secondly, Jesus is always hands-on; He told Peter exactly what to do to receive what He had for him. Today, we have the Holy Spirit Who leads us inwardly to God’s best. Thirdly, what Jesus did for Peter was not based on Peter’s good behavior. In fact, verse 8 says that when Peter saw what happened, He cried out, … “Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” Peter didn’t have to clean up his act to get the BLESSING of God in his life.
What is the common denominator in each of the scriptures listed above? A loving, giving God – supplying much more than was needed or expected, based on His Goodness, not ours. The food industry promotes its “supersized” deals and “big gulp” drinks. Marketers think they created the idea of bigger is better. Actually, the idea goes way back to before the foundation of the world when God decided “just enough” would never be “enough” for His family!
