Finding “the Jesus” You Can Talk To

Finding “the Jesus” You Can Talk To

In one way, there are many different “Jesus’s” out there. There is the “Jesus” that hangs on a cross, worn around the neck. There is the “Jesus” found on the bumper sticker of a car.  Then, there is the “Jesus” that sits on a coffee table. While there is nothing inherently wrong with any of the places mentioned where we can find Jesus, for those who haven’t asked Jesus to be the Savior and Lord of their lives, those places are simply outward displays of someone/something they can’t relate to.

There is another “Jesus” that awaits to be discovered. He is “THE JESUS” that we can talk to. After all, the most basic need of any human is the need for intimacy, and its root is found in communication; a need to “bare all” with someone else about who we are and who we are not. With people, that is not always an easy thing; we put up walls to hide what we don’t want others to know.

But what if… you could find someone who you could talk to, anytime, anywhere, 24-7?

What if… you could find someone who would not only listen, but also had the ability to really understand what you were going through? A person who would extend to you compassion and empathy you had never experienced from any other person in your life?

What if… you found someone who would extend His hand to you and offer you a new life free of condemnation, shame, or guilt?

What if… all you had to say to that someone, is “I receive you into my life as my Savior. If you can do anything with it, take it – it’s Yours.”

The Truth is, all of those “what ifs” find their fulfillment in the person of Jesus.

There is one more “what if” you must address; what if you feel that you can’t experience this because you think your life is just too much of a mess? Not a problem. When God created you, He left a hole in your heart that can only be filled by His Son’s presence. Once you invite Jesus in, He takes care of all the other stuff. According to the Bible you become a brand-new person on the inside – your past is no longer held against you. That means Jesus is responsible for your life from that point on. His job is to lead and guide you through the presence of Holy Spirit, and, your job is simply to believe and to receive from Him daily.  It’s called GRACE (God’s undeserved favor) and it is indeed amazing!

Tips to get started in your walk with Jesus:

  • Tell someone you know who is a believer that you have asked Jesus into your life. By doing that you are making a public declaration of your decision to receive Jesus into your life.
  • Get a Bible. Start by reading Psalm 23, Psalm 139, and Psalm 91. Then go to the New Testament and read the book of John. Get grounded in God’s love for you; make His love for you the foundation of your relationship with Him.
  • Find a Word Church – one that teaches what Jesus did while He walked on the earth (heal, deliver, and prosper), He still does today.
  • Set aside time (5 mins., 15 mins., it doesn’t have to be long) and talk to your Heavenly Father each day. Talk to Him like you would a good friend. It may seem awkward at first but start by letting Him know what you are feeling. He is a good listener!
  • Finally, meditate (think) on this statement until it drops into your heart. “Nothing I can do will ever make God love me more. And, nothing I can do will ever make God love me less.”
