The Importance of What We Say

The Importance of What We Say

Proverbs 18:21 (The Message Bible)
21 Words kill, words give life;
    they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.

If you have been around the Full Gospel movement for any length of time you are familiar with the importance of choosing your words carefully.  God showed us the power of words in Gen. 1:3 when He said, “Light be,” and light was. He literally created all things by saying. Then He gave man the authority to do the same in his life (Genesis 1:26).

The good news is that many of us are getting a greater revelation of speaking right words. We confess healing scriptures, prosperity scriptures, and other promises of God in faith. But there is one area of our lives that we have been slow in our confessions. It is with the aging process.

Aging in America is not something embraced by either believers or unbelievers. The consensus is that we spend our whole lives working to earn a comfortable retirement, then enjoy a few years doing the things we never had time to do, only to spend our final years of our lives struggling with sickness or degeneration due to age or injury. But that is not the scriptural view of the Bible.

Changing our perspective to a Biblical view could be a game-changer for those in their senior years. (And, a revelation of this at any age would change the trajectory of their later years for the young). A shift from seeing ourselves as becoming “old” to becoming “older” is the starting point. This is not just some mind-game. Galatians 3:13 says we have been redeemed from the curse of the Law. Since all disease is a part of the curse, then death from sickness and disease is also. Yes, we will all separate from our bodies someday (the world calls that death) but for the believer our separation would more accurately be described as a departure. So, to reject getting old is not a contradiction of the truth.

Imagine if our thoughts changed from the “best is behind” to “the best is yet to come” in this life. Yes, there will be health challenges and situations to face in this fallen world. But challenges have been with us all our lives. The most important thing to remember is that the GRACE of God has not only redeemed us from the curse of the law, it has also redeemed us UNTO the BLESSING of Abraham which can be traced back to the BLESSING originally spoken by God over man in the Garden. One scripture that sums up that BLESSING is Psalm 91:16 (NASB 1995):16 “With [a]a long life I will satisfy him and [b]let him see My salvation.” Meditating on this scripture until it becomes anchored in our hearts is an important way we can change our perspective.

What does that mean for us as we advance in years? It means that God always has something more for us in life. There is no expiration date on being used by God. One well-known minister of the gospel said that the Lord told him (paraphrase), “I have new anointings and assignments for people in their 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and beyond. But I can’t get many people to receive them.”

If you are ready to become a receiver of the promise of a long and satisfying life that belongs to you as a child of God, you can start with this simple confession:

 “I have been redeemed from the curse of growing old and I have been
redeemed unto the BLESSING of aging with GRACE.
Should Jesus tarry, I will depart satisfied, not sick and suffering.”

And then, say it until it drops into your heart and you will believe it!! Anchor Tombstone 16px
